Spicy Bacon Hash-brownies with a side of Ice Cream

Spicy Bacon Hash-brownies

I’m back. I’ve been trying to figure how to be a better chef. I’ve spent some times learning how to make noodles from scratch and trying to follow recipes. I am certain that this recipe is proof of my improvement.

Here’s what you will need:

  • 3 – 4 Slices of Bacon
  • Shredded Hash-browns
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Box of Trader Joe’s Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Brownie Mix
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 Cup of Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Cup of Water

Start by dicing the slices of bacon. Then, in a heated pan, fry bits of bacon to desired crispiness.

Remove bacon from pan while retaining the oil. Pan-fry the shredded hash-browns until roughly golden brown.

While pan-frying the hash-browns, prepare brownie batter. In a bowl, add eggs, water, oil and cayenne pepper. Thoroughly mix the ingredients.

Add in both the hash-browns and burnt bacon bits into the brownie matter and mix.

Once thoroughly mixed, add the batter to a oiled baking pan. Bake at 325 degree Fahrenheit or roughly 163 degrees Celsius for 40 minutes.

After 40 minutes, remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Cut out out slices.

I ate the warm hash-brownie with Vanilla Soy-milk Ice cream and apple jam!

This recipe turned out interestingly. The hash-browns definitely lost their crunch after baking. Though they did give the brownie an unique chewy yet firm texture. The bacon bits added a nice saltiness. Yet it was the cayenne pepper that brought the whole dish together.

I rate this recipe somewhere between a 5 to 8 out of 10. There were definitely moments where the flavors confused me.
